It is important that you sit down and think about all of the potential costs involved so you don't end up out of pocket. While the main things you need to budget for include the venue and dress, there are also a myriad of smaller aspects.

If you have got engaged and are looking to plan your wedding, firstly congratulations! This is one of the biggest and most exciting things you will ever do in your life. It is also something that requires a lot of planning and a careful budget so you can get the day you want.

It is important that you sit down and think about all of the potential costs involved so you don’t end up out of pocket. While the main things you need to budget for include the venue and dress, there are also a myriad of smaller aspects that you might not even think to include until you come across it later down the line.

This might mean that you have less of a  budget left and can’t get exactly what you want because you over splurged elsewhere. Try not to worry as we have put together a list of some of the top things to budget for, for your wedding, that you might have forgotten. Remember at the end of the day it is important that you have fun and don’t allow it to get you too stressed. 

1. Your rings

Due to the initial emphasis being on the engagement ring, it could mean that you forget the rings you will need to exchange on the day – your wedding rings! These can be as budget-friendly or costly as you like, it is completely up to you and the style, design and material you want. Women and mens wedding ring choices don’t need to be identical and you can find some lovely ones on sites such as Etsy as well as traditional jewellers.

2. Your entertainment

A wedding is essentially a giant party and you want everyone to have a good time. The cost of entertainment can be more than you might anticipate, so you want to ensure you have this in your budget from the off. Whether you go for a live band or a DJ, the earlier you get the quotes from them, the better.

3. Your wedding favours

You will want a wedding favour on every table and depending on your amount of guests, this can soon add up! Have a think about what you want to offer, if you want different things for different tables and if you want to purchase them or make them yourself. Favours can be anything from a mini shot of something to sweets or ornaments, it is entirely up to you. Pinterest is a great place to look for ideas!

These are just a few things that you might not otherwise think about, that are important you put in your budget. By working out a budget ahead of time and knowing exactly where you need to split it, you ensure you can afford it. It is a good idea to have a spare pot with some money in it in case there are any extras you need at the end. When figuring out rough estimates of costs, it is always better to overestimate than underestimate.
