Even though car manufacturers are constantly coming up with new ways to stop vehicles from being stolen, they are still a big target for criminals. So, you want to do everything that you can to avoid this happening to you. Though there are no surefire ways to prevent this completely, there are a few important steps that you can take. Take a look at five of the top methods of preventing car theft.

Park in a Garage

A garage or carport can really make a big difference when you are looking for protection for your car. After all, the vast majority of thieves are looking for an easy getaway and this is a good way of stopping them from getting this. Make sure that your garage is always kept shut and you have a door system which makes it difficult to break into.

Don’t Leave Valuables in Sight

When you are out and about, if you leave your valuables on display, it is much more likely that thieves will break a window in order to get in. The same goes for your car keys at home – so check out crimsafe as an option. Make sure that there is nothing in your car worth taking or else store everything in the trunk so it is out of sight and protected from any prying eyes.

Keep Your Car Well-Maintained

It may seem strange to say, but keeping your car clean and in good shape can help to deter any potential thieves. If they see that you look after your vehicle, they will also think it is more likely that you will have an alarm or some sort of tracking system so it is easier to find. Also, try keeping an alarm sticker in your window to put off potential burglars.

Park in Safe Areas

It may seem an obvious one, but it is worth paying a little more to park in a multi storey car park that you know is well-protected rather than down a side street that is out of view. If you do decide to go for street parking, choose somewhere that has good street lighting and CCTV cameras so you know it is well protected.

Use a Steering Wheel Lock

Though it may seem like more effort, if you have a car that you really want to keep protected, using a steering wheel lock is another way that you can deter potential criminals. Again, it is all about not giving criminals an easy ride. And while we are on the subject, you should also remember to always lock your doors. It may seem simple, but a high number of cars are lost because of this!

Drive a Manual

If an automatic-only driving criminal sees that they are trying to steal a manual, they are bound to be instantly deterred!

Keeping your car safe is mainly about common sense, but it is worth getting into a habit of following some of these steps every time you leave your car somewhere.
