When the sun’s out, this is the perfect time to make yourself a refreshing drink and bring your book out in your garden, relax and forget about your everyday stresses. Having a garden can bring so much joy, but what if you feel your garden isn’t quite big enough?

Luckily, there are a few tricks that you can apply to your garden to make it look bigger. Once you have had your Sapphire Grass laid, you can use mirrors to reflect the light, giving the deception of a bigger space. Lighting can be used to highlight important parts of your garden, making it look bigger and planting trees can also help.

Below we have put together three tips for making your garden look bigger.

Use mirrors in your garden

A lot of people consider mirrors as an inside piece of furniture when in fact mirrors can be used in your garden – they are ideal for making your garden look bigger! Mirrors reflect light, making a space brighter, whilst also giving the illusion of a bigger space. This is ideal for your garden as when it’s sunny, the sun will reflect, making your garden look more appealing. Mirrors can be used as a statement piece and used within your flower bedding to feel any gaps.

Use lights in your garden

Lights are often used to improve the interiors of your home, whilst they can also be used to improve your garden. They can be used in your garden to highlight important parts of your garden, such as centrepieces as well as to make the space look bigger. Lighting comes in all shapes and sizes, with floor lamps available as well as fairy lights that hang in the trees. The best and easiest way to get some inspiration is to look at social media channels like Pinterest, TikTok, Facebook or Instagram and see how other people use lighting in their gardens – often they will tag the products they are using.

Use trees in your garden

When you have a small garden, a lot of people lean towards using smaller plants as a way to decorate it and make it look bigger. This has the opposite effect and can make your garden look smaller. Instead, turn to bigger trees as these are more imposing and give the illusion that your garden is bigger. Visit your local garden centre and see what garden trees they have available as this will give you some inspiration. You’ll be amazed at just how many different types of trees you can have in your garden – just make sure you pick one that you can easily look after, otherwise, you risk them dying and having to replace them, which can get expensive over time.
