Innovative Product Review – BYS Oval Brushes

artis-brushes-compared-to-ebay-brushes

I recently saw a youtube video of Chloe Morello who mentioned using the Artis Brushes, which are different to anything I have seen on the market. I was instantly interested and headed over to net-a-porter.com to investigate. The set Chloe Morello mentioned weighs in at a hefty $611 for the Artis Brush’s ‘Digit’ collection which is pretty out of reach for the non-professional makeup addict, and I wanted to see it there was a “drugstore” equivalent to this. Then, like an oasis in the dessert, Gloss in the Queen Victoria Building, in Sydney CBD where I work has a dupe of a few of the brushes., starting from $14.95. Now I’m not saying it is as good, but to try the concept these are perfect. I purchased the BYS

The BYS brushes in this line, start at $14.95. Now I’m not saying it is as good, but to try the concept these are perfect. I purchased the BYS Oval Foundation Brush for $24.95, BYS Oval Concealer Brush for $14.95 and BYS Oval Contour Brush for $19.95 so that I could try out the idea of a front facing brush. The synthetic densely packed fibres are incredibly soft, and being synthetic they have a non-porous “hair” shaft, so they clean easily and don’t harbour bacteria (as natural fur brushes do). Apart from that, I am a vegetarian, so don’t support fur brushes.

I used the brushes this morning, and they are fantastic for foundation. The most smooth application of foundation I have had in a long time. (I must say though, I have reverted to using the L’Oreal True Match Foundation again, since the Too Faced Born This Way did not live up to my expectations.)

The foundation was a breeze to blend, as well as the concealer (using Chanel Concealer after trying the Laura Mercier Concealer (which is a total fail IMO – sets too quickly to blend and impossible to blend once it sets), and I used the Contour brush for Cream Blush (Stila Lip and Cheek Creme) and Luminizer (Nude By Nature Stick Luminizer). All applied flawlessly and lasted pretty well on a crazily hot day in the city. The BYS brushes are a winner all round on price and quality of the actual brush. The only real difference I can see it the Artis brushes are much more elegant looking.

I’m not sure how the Artis brushes differ, but I am intrigued to try these when I have the cash.

This beautiful looking set is available from net-a-porter.com for $611AUD for the 10 piece set. Individually the Artis Brush Elite Smoke Oval 7 Brush is $77 so it gives you an idea of the price difference. The Artis are like buying a Mercedes and the BYS are like buying an entry level Mazda Hatch. The both do the same thing, but Artis are very chic and stylish while they do it.
