Common Health Problems & How To Treat Them From Home

Being unwell is horrible, regardless of how serious the condition is. Coughs and colds

Having a cold is probably the most common illness that people tend to get. The best ways to do this are to drink lots of fluids to flush out the virus, steam which helps to decongest and get rid of any blocked noses, blow your nose often as this will dispel the mucus in your nose carrying any germs and hot drinks such as menthol and herbal teas or hot squash, the heat and steam from the drink will help to clear your sinuses. By getting rid of the cold that will tend to get rid of the cough as they will be linked if you have both together. If your cough persists after your cold is cleared then it best to see your doctor to make sure there is no chest infection or anything else that could be causing it.

Cystitis

If you have got cystitis, which is very common in women at least 1 in 5 women will get it in their lifetime, then there are a few things you can do from the comfort of your home to get it cleared up, without seeing a doctor. Treating cystitis can be relatively simple in some cases, doing things such as drinking lots of water, taking painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol, refraining from sex, soothing any discomfort with a water bottle and avoiding alcohol, fruit juice or caffeine. These things can easily be done from home and don’t really cost you a penny, doing these things will help to provide you with comfort and give your body time to fight the infection on its own.

Put yourself into a dark quiet room if you can, as dark you can make it as the bright lights and any noise will make your headache worse, so getting rid of these will speed up the recovery from it. Make sure you sleep well, sleeping to much or too little will increase your chances of a migraine so it is a good idea to make sure you regulate your sleep.

All the remedies above are things you can do from home and will not cost to much and a trip to your doctor. Not all these remedies will work for some people as it is personal preference as to what works best for you and what you like. Make sure though that you are monitoring yourself and the illness as if it isn’t getting better in a reasonable time then you may need to see your doctor for antibiotics or specific medication.
