Kat Von D declares on the website katvondbeauty.com:
“If you want to know who Kat Von D Beauty is, all you gotta do is look in the mirror.
We are bold, unapologetic, outspoken and different in our own way. We are artists, poets, and lovers. We are the outsiders and the insiders.”
I was drawn to this brand because of the wonderfully original packaging and great formulations. The collaboration between Sephora and Kat Von D started with 4 perfect red lipsticks and is now a highly respected makeup line with serious street cred.
It’s hard to know where to start when critiquing the brand, but here are my faves:
This thick, pigment-rich concealer is so opaque, and stays fluid for just long enough to use a Beauty Blender to soften the edges without removing the product itself. I use it under my eyes, cover up a few scars and redness, and it has good staying power.
This palette is a makeup maven’s must-have. As I get older my eyes cannot tolerate much shimmer as my eyes look all wrinkly. This Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette allows me to create a real variety of looks using the mat shades. The formula of the shadows are that buttery, fine texture that is easy to blend and stays for the day. I can wear literally every shade. Just be aware for the novice, this is a very pigmented product so if you overload the brush, you may get fall out. As you learn to use the product you will avoid this but using a light touch with the brush.
The convenience of also having the blush, bronzer/contour and highlight shades make this the jet setter’s staple to include in carry-on.
I am always tossing up which top three to purchase when I am on a binge. Well, thanks to Kat Von D, I don’t have to. The formulation remind me a little of the waxy/matte Poppy lipsticks of the 90’s, and they do wear off a little unevenly, but if you do a clean up and reapply that counters that. The colours are so perfect I cannot begin to explain how in love I am, and don’t get me started on the packaging…
So far that’s all I have tried, but I do want to try ouy:
