New Year, Fresh Ideas, Following my Passions: Happy New Year 2018

fuschia to paint

Happy New Year’s Day my friend. If you read my blog I consider you a friend. You’ve taken the time to read my words, and I hope that my thoughts “on paper” offer you ideas, inspiration or just food for thought.

I’ll probably look back in 12 months time and cringe at this, but I actually hope I look back at this and treasure my path and see how I’ve stuck to my guns and made stuff happen for myself, my future and my family.

2017 was a challenging year. I quit a job in which I was not suited and completely miserable, despite a glamorous office and nice co-workers. I realised I couldn’t just tick the “go-to-work” box each day and be happy. I have an innate and thirst to create beauty, be a catalyst for thought, I need my handiwork to be seen and heard, in whatever capacity I am able.

In 2017 I did a short course in organisation with Kikki K. I truly believe in this brand and recommend their courses, books and stationery. There is something about putting actual pen to paper that stimulates the brain in a way that digital writing doesn’t. I have always had journals and notebooks to try to remember lessons, sort out thoughts and process the slings and arrows life throws at me. I use a combination of digital and physical records, embracing the new but not losing the old methods of written creativity.

I like to think I have my poet/drover Great grandfather looking down seeing me find my creative path as he struggled to find his, challenged by the desire to write his exquisite bush poetry and document the characters and stories of the challenges that the early rural European settlement of Australia, and the need to provide for his wife Mary, Son Jimmy, and precious daughters Jean and Bonnie.

This blog evolved into it’s own entity and it feels like a high maintenance friend who is also very generous. Through PR companies’ believe in my new blog, I was able to create a gift guide for Christmas that I could share with my family, as well as help small and boutique companies along the way. Because I was gifted an airbrush through Velbella airbrush system, I have made the choice to go back to making women to look beautiful again, promoting the system.

I really want to get back into living a more authentic and creative life, where my days are less about business and more about creating beauty. I feel as if in the past few years since I sold Blossom Graphic Design, and stopped doing makeup, that I’ve lost the purpose of the business. Yes, a business should be scalable, marketed well and make money, but it should also be about passion. My passion is transformation. My passion lies transforming branding, creating exquisite and jump-off-the-shelf packaging, women’s faces for events or a blank canvas into a work of I’m proud to show.

I’m also finally completing my Diploma of Property so that I can get into staging, marketing and selling beautiful, glamorous properties and be a part of the lucrative and dynamic Sydney market. I know I will need a thick skin but that’s another area of growth for me to achieve my goals.

Of course I have the usual resolutions: lose weight, exercise more, make more money, but they will be the bi-products of being and living a more authentic life.

Happy New Year 2018 friends. xoxoxo
