I love weddings at the best of times, but a royal wedding is a reflection of the times, the fashion, taste and styles in vogue. This wedding was the beloved prince Harry, who stoically walked with his mother’s casket in what was one of the saddest site I think we all remember. After being the (reportedly) playboy Prince, Harry has now found love and joy with the American actress Meghan Markle. It was a dream wedding and will shape the fashions and style of weddings moving forward for years.
Meghan Markle Wedding Day Bridal Makeup
Meghan Markle (now the Duchess of Sussex) didn’t stray from her usual makeup look for the royal wedding. She has asked makeup artist Daniel Martin to create the fresh and glowing look, on top of her luminous bridal face. She chose to rely on Martin, an old friend since 2011 at an event for Suits in New York City.
The Duchess’ was kept fresh looking with a minimal foundation, and just a touch of concealer under her eyes. Her youthful, pretty freckles were visible and her skin looked as radiant as much as a bride can. Her brows and eyes were the focus of the look, with a gray eyeshadow across her eyes, lashings of mascara (I suspect Dior Show Waterproof) and I would wager she is also wearing individual false for extra oomph. Martin filled-in her brows with a warm brown powder for definition. Brows are a very important part of bridal makeup in 2018.
The Royal Wedding Flowers
“Big green foliage and white accents are so on trend right now, so I was not surprised… ”
– Jac Bowie from Geelong based wedding planners Darling Don’t Panic
Meghan’s bouquet contained one lovely gesture of a few flowers handpicked by Harry from the couples garden, these were included in florist Philippa Craddock’s bespoke bridal bouquet.
One of my favourite parts of any wedding are the flowers and this wedding had a beautiful touch. The wedding bouquet was designed in a “gentle, ethereal, relaxed” style says the statement of the palace. The flowers were included: scented sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine and astrantia, and sprigs of myrtle all bound with a naturally dyed, raw silk ribbon.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (now Duchess of Sussex) paid a moving and subtle floral tribute to the late Princess Diana. Gorgeous foliage adorned St George’s Chapel including snow-white roses – which were Prince Harry’s late mother’s favorite.
Flowers includes in the decoration and theme consisted of white garden roses – a favorite of the late princess – as well as peonies and foxgloves.
There was a central arch to frame the royal couple. Two lavish arrangements sat on either side of the altar in Windsor Castle’s chapel.
The ornamentation featured foxgloves with branches of beech, birch and hornbeam, cascading towards the outside the chapel, lining the West Steps and surrounding the West Door.
The Royal Wedding Jewellery
Meghan Markle was generously appointed with spectacular jewels to tie the knot to Prince Harry at the royal wedding at Windsor Castle Saturday. Meghan walked down the aisle in boatneck a classically beautiful Givenchy off-the-shoulder gown and accessorised with dazzling diamonds.
Meghan wore the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau tiara. Queen Mary, wife of King George V, bought this small diamond bandeau from luxury London jeweller Garrard in 1925. After her death, the tiara was inherited by her daughter-in-law, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent. Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Margaret, has also worn the tiara.
The now Duchess of Sussex wore the most exquisite diamond stud earrings Galanterie de Cartier earrings by French jeweler Cartier, along with a simple diamond bracelet also by the designer, from their “Reflection de Cartier bracelet“, on her right hand – both in white gold and diamonds.
The now Duchess as an engagement gift. London’s Cleave & Company created the royal rings along with Meghan’s engagement ring.
Meghan’s dazzling engagement ring is made up of three diamonds, with one large stone in the middle with two smaller stones on each side. These have great sentimental value for Harry as they come from his late mother, Princess Diana‘s personal collection. The other stone is from Botswana, a country close to his heart.
The Duchess of Sussex Dress and the Veil
“A Dream Day accompaning [sic] stunning #meghanmarkle on her journey to become the Duchess of Sussex in @givenchyofficial,”
Designer Clare Waight Keller wrote on Instagram along with a photo of Meghan walking up the 22 stairs of St. George’s Chapel followed by 7-year-old twin page boys, Brian and John Mulroney, who carried the 16-foot veil.
The Royal Wedding Cake
“I was seriously in love with the cake, Violet bakery did an incredible job and to use actual elderflower from the palace gardens – it looked really organic and natural.”
Kensington Palace have released photos of the ultimate in wedding cake design and ingredients. Decorated with Swiss meringue buttercream frosting, the cake also features 150 fresh flowers, including peonies and roses.
“The wedding cake is to be served at the Reception. It was designed by Claire Ptak and features elderflower syrup made at The Queen’s residence in Sandringham from the estate’s own elderflower trees, as well as a light sponge cake uniquely formulated for the couple”. #royalwedding pic.twitter.com/kt5lE4tEn9
