If you have a spare room in your home, it can sometimes be challenging deciding what to do with it. A lot of people will leave it as a room for someone to stay in when they visit, but in a lot of cases, this isn’t much, so you are better off making it a multipurpose room where someone can stay, but it has other uses.
When you start looking into uses of spare rooms, you’ll be amazed at the options. It’s one of those, it’s obvious, once you’ve started looking into it. You could create a home office (perfect if you work from home), if you have children, a dedicated gaming room could be useful or a wellness space where you can workout and relax (perfect for your mental health).
To help inspire you, below we have put together a brief guide on three uses for a spare room. Keep on reading to learn more and who knows, you may be changing your room to one of our suggestions in the coming months.
Gaming room
A good place to start is a gaming room. With a gaming room you can easily make it a space where guests can stay as well as a space you can enjoy online gaming in or your children can (if you have kids).
The key to making this successful is blending gaming with sleeping. Make sure you have a nice day bed and lighting options which work for gaming and sleeping. You’ll need a cool gaming chair, which you can game on for hours, whilst also completing the athletics of the room. The desk you pick will also play a big role in making the room work for gaming, whilst relaxing when guests are round.
Home office
If you work from home, even on occasions, having a home office is something that can make working a lot nicer – instead of working from your sofa or dining room table. Having a dedicated workspace helps improve focus, productivity and work-life balance. Depending on the size of your spareroom, you will need to combine having a sleeping space with a desk (very simialr to a gaming room in a way). If you have a partners to stay, you’ll need to find a way to fit a double bed and a desk in – or you could opt for a pullout bed. Some people opt for sofa beds, but these aren’t always the most comfiest things in the world. A murphy bed is often a really good solution for this.
Wellness space
Creating a wellness space is becoming increasingly popular and it’s no surprise really when you consider fitness and mental health is becoming something a lot of people focus on (for good reasons). Having a dedicated area to unwind, exercise or simply take a break can do wonders for your mental and physical health. Making a wellness space is fairly easy to do and it doesn’t cost a lot – budget is something you will have to take into consideration for any changes. Depending on the type of exercises you enjoy, you may only need a yoga matt, a few weights, nice lighting and inspiring decor.
