or the In a collaboration with Boucheron, Creme De La Mer transformed the plain pot into a work of exquisite beauty. Nothing has changed inside, the formulation is the same, but the container and price point went from from USA$168 to USD$20,000 (yes, you read it correctly) due to the luxury packaging. As a skincare junkie, I was naturally in love. This is not packaging, this is jewellery for the dressing table. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for my budget) it was a limited edition in the holiday season 2013.
Creme De La Mer is a cult classic, that costs a pretty packet and the basic cream has a formulation that hasn’t changed since the 1970’s. In order to justify the excessive price tag, Creme De La Mer on occasion does a limited edition collaboration with a design luminary. In the case of this edition, Boucheron is the partner, creating one of the most excessively over the top and exquisitely beautiful pieces of packaging I have ever seen. Maintaining the Crème de la Mer ocean theme, french jeweller Boucheron chose mother-of-pearl for the divinely beautiful case. The jar is topped off with Boucheron’s Clous de Paris motif in gold. The product never actually touches the decadent Bucheron pot, it is simply a vessel into which the original packaging can fit. So it would make a great gift, with two benefits. A relatively decent skincare and a beautiful container for the dresser.
