Forget Interior Design And Focus on Your Home’s Exterior

Forget Interior Design And Focus on Your Home's Exterior

While interior design is a wonderful way to express yourself through your home, and there are many reasons to redesign the interior of your house, not enough people focus on the exterior of their home. The exterior of your home – that is the outside including the driveway, roofing, paintwork and garden, is just as important, if not more important than the inside of your property.

The very first thing people see when they pay you a visit is the outside of your home. Walking or driving in to your property they will either notice how beautiful it looks from the outside, or perhaps they will be confronted with unsightly weeds, a run-down driveway, and paintwork that needs to be re-done. People tend to make judgements within a few seconds. You may have a beautiful home, but if the outside doesn’t reflect this then it may lessen the impact of your home.

Maintaining your walls

If you have wooden panels, brickwork, or stone surfacing, that make up the walls of your home, you will likely need to maintain them every so often. Wooden homes are not as common as they used to be, and the maintenance needed will likely be more than with brick and stone homes. Nonetheless, if your house is painted it will require a touch up every so often. As a rule of thumb, a house should be repainted every ten years depending on the damage caused by the elements. In areas that are prone to bore water stains you will need to do additional maintenance to deal with this. A way to get rid of unsightly bore water stains is to get a professional in bore water stain removal to come and rid your property of these marks.

Fencing

Protecting your property is paramount, and having a wall or fence around your property is a simple way to maintain your boundaries. If you have fencing, and have neighbours on either side of your property it is crucial to determine which fence belongs to you as this will avoid uncomfortable clashes with your neighbours in the future. If your fence suffers damage in a storm or through normal degeneration, you need to know who is responsible for the cost of repair. With fences it is very important to ensure that any paint you use is weather proof and non-toxic. Using non-toxic paint is important, not only for you or your children, but for the animals that may pass through your property.

Garden

In a similar vein, if you have young children you need to remove any toxic or harmful plants from your property. When your children are at the age of crawling and beyond they will put almost anything they discover in their mouth. Bright berries will be very tempting so it is best to remove them from your property. This also goes for ponds or pools. Placing barriers around them will be an insurance against any potential accident in the future.
