4 Unconventional Ways of Relieving Problematic Skin

Try these four methods to help relieve some of the pain and embarrassment of your skin condition.

If you struggle with problematic skin, you’ll know all too well how frustrating and upsetting it can be. Not only are you dealing with the pain that comes with it, but you’re also dealing with the aesthetics too. While you should never feel self conscious about your skin, it’s understandable that you want to do everything in your power to find relief and feel a bit more comfortable in your own skin.

However, you already know about moisturising well and using any medicated creams, but if they haven’t worked, you might be wondering where to turn to next. Let’s take a look at some of the more unconventional methods of getting some relief.

Probiotics

Did you know that a lot of skin conditions actually originate from the gut? If your gut isn’t healthy, it will show on your skin. That’s where probiotics come into play. They work by helping to reduce inflammation in your gut, which then contributes to your overall immune system. Whether you want to try probiotic supplements or introduce fermented foods into your diet is your decision. Either way, taking better care of your gut health will help relieve some of the symptoms of your skin condition.

Cold showers

You probably already know how taking a shower can leave your skin feeling dry, tight and irritated. This might be because the temperature of the water is too high. Hot showers strip your skin of essential oils, which is what causes your skin to feel that way once it’s dry. However, cold water can actually improve circulation, help reduce inflammation and tighten your pores. While you’ll still need to apply creams once you’re out, you’ll notice that your skin feels much better.

Meditation

If you’ve ever spent any time researching your skin condition, you’ll already know that stress is a large contributor to flare ups. However, stress is a part of everyday life, so it’s important to find ways to reduce stress. Of course, your first port of call should always be your GP for advice, but you can do things like meditation or yoga to help release pent up stress. If you’re able to release stress each day, you’ll soon start to notice that your flare ups are far and few.

Hydrate from the inside out

You know how important it is to stay hydrated for your overall health and well-being, but did you know that it plays a huge role in how your skin looks and feels too? If you’re not getting enough water each day then your skin will suffer. Make sure you drink the recommended 2 litres of water every day, and you’ll almost immediately begin to notice how much better your skin feels. If you struggle to drink water, a great solution is to try an Air Up bottle. It uses your sense of smell to trick you into thinking you’re drinking flavoured water, when in fact it’s only water in the bottle.
