Year by year, and even day by day, the number of people who are working from home seems to be increasing at a significant rate.
This is generally a really good thing for most of the people who make the transition. It allows them to be more focused on their own projects and ambitions, and allows a good deal more flexibility over how they structure their time, and how they live their lives.
But, in order to work from home successfully, and achieve your full potential, it’s important to have a home office that really helps you to achieve peak productivity, and that reduces distractions.
So, here are some tips for turning your home office into a productivity paradise.
Set it up with comfortable furniture that allows you to ease into your work for long stretches of time
Hypothetically, if you were sitting on an extremely uncomfortable stool all day, while trying to do your work, you would likely not feel very good about things, or be very productive of focused. And you’d likely have to get up and take long breaks on a pretty regular basis.
On the other hand, if you invest in ergonomic and comfortable Arteil office chairs, you’re probably going to be able to get far more focused, and will be able to sit and work for much longer stretches of time before you feel like you really need to get up and do some stretching.
The furniture you have in your home office may not seem like a really big deal – and buying high-end home office furniture may even seem like a silly and wasteful indulgence.
The bottom line, though, is that the more comfortable you can make your office environment, the more likely it is that you’ll be able to enjoy your work, and do it well.
Try to keep it as “single purpose” as possible
Generally speaking, it’s a bad idea to have a “home office” that also doubles up as your personal videogame chamber, library, and home gym.
One of the primary benefits of having a home office in the first place, is that it is an area which is dedicated solely to work, and which therefore puts you in a work-focused state of mind when you enter it.
Depending on the space available in your home, you may not realistically be able to dedicate an entire room to nothing but your work. But, the more “single purpose” you’re able to keep your home office, the better for your productivity.
Use motivational props and rituals to get you “in the zone”
A lot has been written about the importance of getting into a “flow state” while working, at least if you want to achieve big things in your professional life.
A flow state is that “zone” you get into, where you are just tearing through your work at a rapid rate, are completely focused on what you’re doing, are enjoying it, and are getting more done than you believed possible.
Different psychological tricks and routines can help to get you into a flow state. Using motivational props – such as posters with inspirational quotes, for example – can be useful for this. Having little rituals to start the work day off can also be very powerful. Even something as simple as having your cup of coffee at your desk, and then opening your planner for the day, can signal that it’s “flow time” now.
