My little family has to rely on the limitations of rental decor. We are one of the many Sydney based families who cannot afford to put $300K down on a deposit for a modest family home. My husband, photographer, Michael Kennedy gets regular work, but it isn’t at all predictable, and I am working full time at a salary which is above average, but it’s not enough to save.
Every time we have come close to a deposit, we’ve had to pay for a funeral (our son’s), or medical expenses (I have had four lots of surgery in six years each costing $6K -10K) and it’s just been out of reach to buy a home with that happening.
But I do believe that our rental home is unique and we are able to make it our own, through our limited colour palette, use of rugs, cushions, linen and artwork hung with wall friendly hooks.
