How To See Yourself In A New & Better Light

How To See Yourself In A New & Better Light
People, on average, are way too hard on themselves yet people who care about others often find many ways to criticize themselves, even if those critical thoughts aren’t entirely justified.

People, on average, are way too hard on themselves. Of course, there are those out there who never seem to question anything they do and go through life with a bizarre sense of total self-certainty, which can quickly lead to arrogance. And yet those people who care about others often find many ways to criticize themselves, even if those critical thoughts aren’t entirely justified.

You don’t even have to be a masochist to partake in this kind of bad habit. If your joke doesn’t land at the office gathering, or you feel as though you didn’t quite give your best, or you’ve realized that after lockdown, you’ve put weight on (don’t worry, most of us have!) it’s hard not to somehow see this as proof that you’re not worthwhile. This, even if permitted as something of a subconscious reality, can damage us and our confidence.

It may just be that you need to see yourself in a new light for the best possible resolution. In our guide, we hope to help you achieve that, as well as giving you a chance to rebuild that confidence on stronger, less temporary foundations. Let’s consider how to get out of our way:

Set A Personal Challenge

Sometimes, it’s hard for us to recognize our ability unless we have concrete proof that it exists. That’s fine. Perhaps, then, you’d be better suited to trying a creative project that gives you a sense of ambition and potential. Perhaps, once a day for the rest of the summer, you could take a photograph of the outside world, edit it, write a small poem for each one, and print this out into a little book? This is just one example of a means by which doing something for yourself and exploring your ability will help you think of yourself anew.

Try A Makeover

If you look good you feel good, but most importantly, if you feel good, you look good. Thankfully, both of these efforts feed into one another almost perfect. Searching for ‘the best salon near me’ will help you find an amazing service that can help bring out your best attributes, helping your hair serve as the cornerstone of a beautiful remodelling of how you present yourself to the world. It’s not about changing who you are, but updating your appearance to match how you feel today. That in itself can feel tremendously empowering.

Rest & Journal Your Priorities

Giving yourself the space to figure out what you want can help you understand who you are and what your strengths may be. This sounds obvious, but too many people have such busy lives that even an hour of self-reflection can seem like a real indulgence. That’s not a flaw of their character of course, it just means they’re responsible and care for others. Yet sometimes, you need to care for yourself, and giving yourself the space necessary for that can help you identify what is actually important to you. That helps you see yourself in a clearer, and sometimes more favourable, updated light.

With this advice, you’re sure to see yourself in a new and better light going forward.
