How To Design A Workspace That Your Employees Will Love

How To Design A Workspace That Your Employees Will Love
Try to evaluate the needs of each individual employee and create spaces that will work for them, recognizing that they will need different things depending on their tasks.

A drab and dull workspace can be draining on your motivation and can impact your bottom line. If you have a good workspace then your productivity can rise, and therefore, profits can soar. But economic benefits aren’t the only reason that a brilliantly designed and well thought out workspace will also help you attract and retain talent. Employees who feel well looked after by a business owner who has created a workspace for them and their needs will be happier and more willing to go that extra mile when it is needed most. Here are a few suggestions that will help you design a relaxing and productive workspace.

Coffee Making Facilities

Did you know that the average American drinks over 3 cups of coffee a day? If you are having to go out and buy a coffee from the local cafe that can seriously make a dent in your wages. Offering your employees the facilities to make an excellent tasting cup of coffee, has huge benefits. According to The Wellbeing Thesis, taking breaks boosts company happiness levels and productivity, so it is a win-win situation for you too. Investing a small amount into some good tea and coffee and the facilities to make your own cup will allow your employees to enjoy their break properly.

Light

Light has an enormous impact on us all. Vitamin D is crucial for maintaining healthy bones, teeth, and muscles and has been linked to mental health as well. Making sure your offices feel bright and are exposed to daylight without creating glare on screens is an aspect of design you will want to get right. If your windows are scratched or tainted, get some professionals with expertise in Glass Polish to make sure the light from your windows is bright, clear, and not being distorted.

Similarly, consider installing new lighting that boosts productivity and prevents migraines from becoming a common feature amongst your staff. Adjustable lights are useful as they can respond to the season and weather outside.

Flexible Seating

According to Statista, standing desks and ergonomic chairs have become increasingly popular in recent years. You do not want your team to feel uncomfortable or for their backs or necks to become strained due to poor seating arrangements. Try and provide multiple options that allow your employees to move throughout the day. Different seating arrangements are more productive for different tasks. For head down working, isolated booths or hot desks in the corner may be useful, informal meetings might work well with more relaxed seating like sofas, and a good table and chairs in an enclosed space is vital for any confidential meetings you might need to have with your employees.

Finally, remember that every business has different objectives and requires different skills from their employees. If you are an architect’s office or an animator, then having good desk space designed for drawing is essential, but that might not be the case if you are an accountant. Try to evaluate the needs of each individual employee and create spaces that will work for them, recognizing that they will need different things depending on their tasks.
