The Chair

The chair, more than the desk, the computer, and the hall of trophies you have in your office, is the pinnacle of the room. When you sit your bottom down on the supported fabric of the base of the chair, you’ll notice the quality almost immediately. A great office chair should also be something that you forget about during the course of your work, as when it supports you greatly it will allow you to focus on other things, and not adjusting your posture or sense of comfort. Be prepared to spend a couple of hundred dollars on the best office chair you can, and this should hopefully last for a few years, giving you plenty of comfortable working hours ahead.

The Space

A tight, cramped and tiny home office will simply not do, especially if you hope to make this your full time working space. As you work it’s likely you’ll need more and more storage space, or even need to use more equipment as part of your job role. Without enough space to cater for this, things can feel a little intensely tight. For this reason, we’re recommend expanding the space. Use another room if possible, or try to declutter your current space. When these simply will not do, it might be that utilizing the services of renovation builders is the next natural step. These services should help you plan the space around your individual requirements, potentially setting you up for long term utility.

The Light

It sounds like an afterthought, but it’s essential that your home office keeps good lighting levels. Without this, you’ll often find that you’ll feel more and more tired in the home office. Dark rooms can also lead to inferior eye health, as staring at bright screens in the dark is a relatively unnatural way of viewing anything. For this reason try to angle and orient your room around the natural source of light, should that be a skylight or a window or both. Also try and backlight your monitor, and at least two other spots in the room. With this your room will always seem highly visible, and simply staying in there should keep you awake, alert and ready for your best work at all times.

With these tips, you can be sure to craft a home office worth of some real envy.
