The Art Of Imitation In Home Design

succulent

When it comes to home decor, many of us are limited by the time we have. After all, most of us are busier than ever. As a result, home designs are often more about convenience than anything else. While heartbreaking, this often seems like the only choice open to us. You want a home which serves your purposes in the most practical ways possible. Otherwise, the space just wouldn’t work for you.

But, this need for convenience doesn’t mean you have to do away with traditional decor. In fact, if you turn your attention to the task, you can find easy ways to achieve near enough any design you fancy. For proof, we’re going to look at easy ways to get a few of the more time-consuming looks.

The natural world

The call for nature in the home is ever on the rise with the emergence of minimalism. A splash of green is the ideal way to set off those stark white walls. Whether you opt for traditional plants, cacti, or succulents, bringing the outside in is the aim of the game. But, in truth, the full-time worker rarely has time to remember to water houseplants. While cacti are a better option because they need less maintenance, there is still work involved. Which, again, isn’t always practical.

The good news is, there are many ways to bring the outside in without the inconvenience. Most obviously, artificial houseplants are a fantastic alternative. And, with demand ever on the rise, options are becoming more and more realistic. So, no one would know the difference. But, you get to enjoy a splash of seemingly natural color all the same.

Or, you could opt for floral decoration choices. Floral wallpapers are big business at the moment. While not quite the same as a real natural splash, this is an excellent way to bring the beauty of nature inside. If you don’t fancy a whole wall of flowers, you could instead focus on floral curtains or cushion covers. These are a more subtle design choice, which still achieves the same impact.

And, don’t forget that you can also incorporate other nature-based additions. Dried leaf prints are stylish and easy to create. Equally, everything cactus related is in fashion at the moment. You could buy cactus ornaments, prints, or even blankets if the mood took you. All of which will help to bring the outside in, without so much as opening the door.

The traditional fireplace

Let’s be honest; nothing beats the image of a traditional fireplace in a home. These are the ideal feature for any room and are sure to look like a blast into a characterful past. In fact, fireplaces often have such a sway on appearance that many of us look out for them during our house hunts. But, there is a significant setback when it comes to a real fireplace which is impossible to ignore; fires take time and patience to start. Not to mention that, when they are up and running, you have to keep them topped up and alive. On top of which, the heat from a fire, while fierce, can take a fair amount of time to fill a room.

While traditional households with staff could turn to this heating method, the modern homeowner finds it more tricky. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t get the authentic image of a fireplace, and a burning fire, in your home. All you need to do is turn to something like the gas fire options offered by Illusion Fires. These are made to look as authentic as possible, with logs, under lighting, and even realistic flames. The impact will be identical to a real option, only getting it going is as simple as flicking a switch. You can also guarantee that the heat will be a lot faster to come this way.

A touch of gold

Few of us can afford to bring real gold into the home. Even if we had all the hours in the world to dedicate to work, we would likely still struggle to achieve this goal. After all, gold is one of the most valuable commodities available. That is, of course, part of its appeal. That, and the fact that it looks so darn good!

The good news is, you don’t have to slave yourself to the bone to afford real gold in your home. There are many gold interior design ideas which won’t cost you much at all. Mainly because they don’t involve real gold, but let’s not dwell on that. These additions are still a sure way to add a splash of luxury to any home.

For the most part, gold-colored choices are a must here. Everything, from a gold table base to gold vases would work well. Equally, spraying bed frames and light fixtures gold would look amazing. Bear in mind that going over the top here would be a mistake. Just a few gold-style touches in each room is all you need.

The not quite homemade

This is also a time of valuing anything artisan, including anything crafted by hand. Nothing beats a blanket made with love or a table which created by human, rather than a machine. And, while the majority of us would like to think these are goals we can all achieve, creating takes time. In case you hadn’t already gathered, time is something we’re trying to save here. The good news is, where there’s a demand, there’s usually an answer. If you wanted to keep this simple, of course, you could just buy things other people have made. But, that’s sure to set you back, and may not be the best option.

Instead, why not consider some of the factory made pieces which are designed to look home crafted? Imperfect designs and seemingly rustic furniture are easy enough to come by. These imitation pieces may not have the charm of the real thing, but they will cost you half the price. That’s a whole other kind of charm.
