Design to Keep Your Home Cool in Summer and Toasty Warm In Winter

Design Ideas that will Keep Your Home Super Cool in Summer

Summer is fast approaching, and even though you are probably looking forward to the BBQs and the chance to break out your favourite shorts, you’re probably not looking forward to how hot your home will be during this time. Luckily, there are things that you can do to really turn things around and you would be surprised at how easy it is for you to keep your home nice and cool, all-year round.

High LRV/Insulating Paints

You can tell if a paint is LRV or not by simply looking at the description. This is a number that describes how reflective the paint is and this is a very important consideration for you to think about when you are either choosing paint for the inside of your home or the outside. If you think about it, light coloured fabrics help to keep people cool in summer, so if you were to have a light-coloured paint then this can really reduce the impact of the solar heat in your home. The higher the LRV number on your paint, the more reflective it can be.

Smart Landscaping

If you know that you are going to need a shady area so you can cool down on a summer’s day then try and create some. You can easily use the landscape around you to try and provide some cool shade and one way for you to do this would be for you to utilise tall shrubs, vines, shady trees and more. This will cool your home by well over 20% and you’d be surprised at how much this can help you with your curb appeal as well.

Awnings

You can’t always rely on nature to help you out with shade so go out and add an awning to any doors that need it. Awnings are now way more popular than ever and you’d be surprised at how much they can help you to really blend your home and your garden together. When choosing your awning, just try and make sure that you are choosing one that reflects the personality of your home. You also need to try and choose one that reflects the colour of your home’s interior as well, so the transition as you walk through feels natural. If you are able to pull all of this off then it can make a huge difference to your home.

A lot of people have curtains in their home and this can be great, but if you really want to make a difference to the amount of heat in your home then one thing that you can do here is to try and have some custom blinds installed. When you do have some custom blinds installed, you can choose ones that are light in colour so that they reflect heat and you can also have complete control over how much heat you let into your home as well so you know that you won’t have any problems at all there.

There are so many ways for you to keep your home cool during the summer, and you don’t need to compromise the look and feel of your home when you do.
